"A League For The Teams, By The Teams And About The Teams"
Prince William Monarchs prevail in 2nd annual "Battle of the Beltway"
over the Virginia Kings"
The Prince William Monarchs (RAFL) opened their 2007 season with a 52-26
win over the Virginia Kings (NAFL). Coined as the "Battle of the
Beltway" this game pitted 2 cross-town rivals against each other in the
second installment of this heated rivalry. The Monarchs won this game
last year 16-14, pushing their record to 2-0 all-time versus the Kings.

Played at George Mason H.S., in Falls Church, Virginia, The Monarchs
opened the scoring with a LONG TD strike from QB Daryl Overton to WR
Kiki Reynolds. The 2-Point Conversion Run by Raymond Gee would put the Monarchs up 8-0. The Kings were then held to a 3 and out, and punted.
The Monarchs then took over from deep in their own territory only to
have a fumble returned for a TD by former Monarch LB Marchello Squirewell, giving the
Kings their first score of the game. The extra point by Andrew Nowrouzi would be good. The Monarchs then answered back with 2 TD runs by QB Daryl Overton. Both 2-point conversions would fail. The first quarter ended with the score 20-7.

The Kings answered in the second quarter with a tipped ball caught by
WR Tony Mooney from QB Cornell Hawkins to make the score 20-14. The
Monarchs then answered with another long TD from QB Daryl Overton to WR
Dominique Mitchell. Raymond Gee would add another 2-point conversion run, making the score 28-14. The Monarchs then held the Kings off, got the ball back and scored off a QB Daryl Overton run. Raymond Gee would add his 3rd 2-point conversion of the day.
With under 2 minutes left in the 1st half QB Daryl Overton connected with WR Eric Wells to close out the second half. FB Johnny Mixon would get his first score of the season with a 2-point conversion. The halftime score showed the Monarchs in a commanding 44-14 lead.

The second half proved to be more of a defensive battle than anything
else, with the Monarchs using a more conservative approach, and the
Kings fighting to make a comeback the 3rd quarter ended scoreless at
44-14.

In the 4th quarter, the Kings scored on a redzone pass from QB Cornell
Hawkins to WR Tony Mooney, and a long run by RB Randy Pellum. Both 2-point conversions would fail. The Monarchs ended the scoring with a mid-range pass to WR Eric Wells. QB PJ Seilhamer would hit WR Rocky Parrish in the back of the endzone for the 2-point conversion.
