Prince William extinguish blaze

The Prince William Monarchs (RAFL) traveled to Philadelphia PA to take on the Olney Blaze of the Independent Football League Saturday. This was the first ever meeting between these two teams. With only 21 guys the Monarchs would extent their winning streak to 2 games with a 24-0 win

. Played at Olney Recreation Center, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, The Monarchs kicked off to the Blaze to begin the game. The Blaze stalled around the 50 yard line and were stopped on 4th down. The Monarchs took over and drove down the field. QB Daryl Overton would take it around the left side for a 25 yard touchdown run. QB Daryl Overton took off running on the 2 point conversion and scored to make it 8-0. The first quarter would expire very quickly.

The Monarchs would strike again in the second quarter, this time in the air, from QB Daryl Overton to WR Eric Wells for a long touchdown. The two point conversion would fail as WR Kiki Reynolds caught the pass but was forced out of bounds before he could down. With under 2 mins left in the half and the score 14-0 the Monarchs had the Blaze trapped deep. On fourth down the Blaze punter took a bad snap and step out of the back of the endzone for a safety. The Monarchs would lead 16-0 at halftime.

The second half would go back and forth until QB Daryl Overton broke through the line and zig zagged for a long touchdown run. WR Shawn Penn completed the 2pt conversion with a nice one-handed catch from QB Daryl Overton.

The fourth quarter began and the Blaze tried to make a comeback but the Monarchs defense was too tough. The offense would take over and drive the field. The Monarchs would make it down to the 30 yard line with about 10 minutes to play in the game but the Blaze and refs agreed to call the game This game puts the Monarchs at 2-0 for the season. The Monarchs are off this week as they prepare for the Season Opener against the defending LCFL Champion Philadelphia Panthers on 7/15.
