Grassroots Football League (GFL) Merges into the RAFL as an affiliate for the 2008 season
NY, NY; Today, the RAFL (Regional American Football league) announced that they have adopted the GFL (Grassroots Football League) as an affiliate for the 2008 season. The GFL will contain 6-10 teams, with 6 already confirmed including the Pittsburgh Colts, Rochester Renegades, Cleveland Cardinals, Mahoney Valley Tigers, and Mon Valley Mayhem. The GFL will participate in the RAFL playoff system as well as be eligible for the NFA/MLFA National Playoff structure. “With some pending applications still under review, we’ll be more clear on whether we have six, eight, or ten teams in the upcoming days” said Pittsburgh Colts owner and GFL Chairman Ed Brosky. “We like the structure of the RAFL and NFA/MLFA Playoffs, and look forward to the opportunity to try to reach the pinnacle of playing other league champions as well as competing for the RAFL Championship”.
As an affiliate, if the GFL has growth past 14 teams, will have the option to become its own league within the NFA structure at any point after the 2008 season if they so desire. “We have agreed that if they reach that point where they have enough to form their own playoff system within the NFA/MLFA, we will grandfather them in as a full NFA member at that point” said RAFL Commissioner Adam Turkel. “The RAFL and NFA want our affiliate teams and leagues to grow, it only makes us stronger” stated RAFL President Charles McGill.
