The Miners will practice tonight 6:45pm at the South Side Complex in Scranton implementing their game plan for the Predators without looking ahead. Team officials mentioned the potential opportunity to have home field advantage throughout the playoffs if they can run the table in their remaining four games but can’t for a second look past this weekend’s opponent. The New York Predators were 17-2 a year ago only losing twice to the defending RAFL and National Champion Prince William Monarchs who were a record breaking 21-0. Our hometown Miners are led by Quarterback J.P. Antosh who threw four touchdowns and had 174 yards in the air last weekend versus the Hudson Valley Cowboys to give him over 1000 yards passing on the season. The Miners boast a tenacious defense that has pitched two shutouts this season thanks in part to the pressure from line mates Malcolm Singleton and Eyad Elbattah along with Donnie Jackson-Beys smooth transition to Linebacker. The Special teams have been boosted by P.J. Piskorick who had a 95 yard kickoff return last weekend and averaged over 40 yards per punt this season. The Miners kickoff 7pm this Saturday night at Scranton Memorial Stadium, special guests will be Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty, the Elite U.S. Marines, Buttons the Clown and the Miners Girls Entertainment Team will be performing at half time. It ought to be another night of family fun at the Miners with a battle on the grid iron. PITBULL STREAK ENDS AT FIVE WITH 20-14 OT LOSS TO NJ WOLVESOn Aug 16 a battle of undefeated took place in Plainfield NJ between former GSFL power NJ wolves and 2nd year franchise Long Island Pitbulls. The game started with a flurry of passes which led to a short TD reception, giving wolves a 6-0 lead. The Pitbulls look to be unfazed by 1st Wolves TD and went on a scoring drive of there own. A 25yd TD pass from #12 Steve Newman to #85 Rodney Myrick. #8 Don Bonacorsa kicked the PAT giving Pitbulls a 7-6 lead. After a defensive stop the Pitbulls offense took over at their own eight yard line with about 12 minutes remaining in game. What ensued was a time consuming (9:58) drive, consisting of runs and passes which took the Pitbulls to the 5yd line. It what appeared to be a game winning drive quickly turned sour as the unrelenting Wolves defense scratched and clawed to force a fumble at the 2yd sending the game into OT.

The Wolves defense held the Pitbulls at bay forcing a punt out of the endzone to the 30yd line which was returned to the around the 15yd line which led to the Wolves game winning TD run. NEPA Miners Football Heating UpThe North East PA Miners are playing some quality football as they are on a two game winning streak for the second time this season. The Miners won big against the Empire State Titans 37-0 led by their smoldering defense which did not let the Titans offense get near the red zone, pitching their second shutout of the season. Defensive Back Jamie Kendrick had another big game returning an interception for a touchdown. Quarterback J.P. Antosh threw touchdown strikes to Wide Receivers Jeremy Kendrick and Montell Knauls. The All-Time Minor League Rushing Leader Donnie Jackson-Bey scored a touch down and rookie kicker Trevor Young kicked three field goals. Can they keep winning? The Miners believe so but the Hudson Valley Cowboys, New York Predators and Hudson County Bounty Hunters are lining up to knock the Miners off their high horse. All three competitors are coming off of big wins, the Predators being undefeated and the Cowboys looking for revenge after a tough 30-0 defeat to the Miners in the Regional American Football League season opener. Our hometown Miners are 4-1-1 (3-1-1 RAFL) and only a half game behind the New England Knights 3-0-1 for first place in the RAFL North East Division while being a game and half ahead of the Division Rival Hudson Valley Cowboys who are 2-2. The close standings make the Miners matchup versus the Cowboys a big one as the North East Division race is tight. The Miners will then return home to Scranton Memorial Stadium to host the undefeated New York Predators on August 23rd in which Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty is scheduled to attend. The Miners will then host the Hudson County Bounty Hunters on September 6th in their final regular season home game with special guest and up and coming R & B group Minxx performing live at half time.
