Plainfield's Wolves Gear Towards Season
(Plainfield) – The New Jersey Wolves are putting in hard work as they prepare for their inaugural season in the RAFL. Settling in at Seidler Field, the Wolves plan on another successful season even though they share a division with the Brooklyn Mariners, a minor league football powerhouse. The Wolves play in the Metro West division of the RAFL with the aforementioned Mariners and two teams from Long Island, the Ravens and the Seahawks. The Wolves show no fear of the competition in the new league.
“In coming over to the RAFL, our schedule breaks down so that we play teams that we have played before, we’ve played the Mariners and Seahawks twice a year for the last six years as well as playing the Ravens, so we are not concerned about matching up with the teams on our schedule” said general manager Ron Scott Bey, “that’s not to say that we will win every game, but I am confident that we will be able to handle the competition.”
After finishing 2007 with a 9-4 record the Wolves have adopted the phrase, “Nothing Less Than The Chip” as their slogan going into 2008, the Wolves expect to improve on last year and take it to the next level in their quest for the RAFL title. The Wolves are focused on not only their record, but making it further in the playoffs and postseason tournaments in 2008.
“Last year was not a stellar year for us, 9-4 might be great for a lot of teams, but we went 9-4 without having some key players…we went about five games without our quarterback, and by season's end our defensive line was depleted by injuries and age. At the end of the season we didn’t feel we were tournament ready, but this year we feel like we rectified that with a younger squad.” Bey added.
Bey commends the city of Plainfield for recognizing that activities like minor league football and organizations like the Wolves can be a positive thing for the young men in the city.
“The main concern of the city is the safety of the residents that come to the games and live in the area around the field. It is up to us to make sure that our organization conducts itself as professionals, as well as putting on a quality show for the community.”
PlainfieldSportsNews.com is looking forward to providing the Wolves as well as the RAFL with quality coverage throughout the season.
